sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lord of the Lakes Council Meeting Notes\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 May 18, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Members Present:\u00a0 Pastor Kevin Heffernan, Jeff Jahnke, Jan Olson, John Macho, Kristen Bjornstad, Apryl Brantley and Sarah Miller.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opening Prayer<\/strong><strong>\u2014Pastor Kevin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Devotion:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Discussion on prayer.\u00a0 Led by Apryl Brantley<\/p>\n<p>Devotion for June\u2014David Wein<\/p>\n<p><strong>Approval of minutes:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff Jahnke made a motion to approve the April 2021 Council Meeting Minutes.\u00a0 Apryl Brantley seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pastor\u2019s Report<\/strong><strong>: \u201c<\/strong>It has been a great month at the church.\u00a0 I have been very encouraged to see attendance on the rise.\u00a0 Also excited to still be meeting new people almost every week.\u00a0 I do think the last year, with all of its difficulties, has made people rethink some life habits.\u00a0 Church seems to be coming out on the top of the to do list for many right now.\u00a0 I am not used to this!\u00a0 But I love it.<\/p>\n<p>Church business has been going well.\u00a0 Youth ministry is still holding steady.\u00a0 With the starting of sport and other activities, there is a bit of drop off on Wednesday nights but honestly not as much as I expected.\u00a0 I know my daughter really enjoys it (and has even had some of her friends attend without my prompting!)\u00a0 Financially things are still going well.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal note- I am still encountering a couple of situations where people are not rebounding.\u00a0 This last year has IMO been extremely difficult for the older aged, and the school aged (middle and high school perhaps most).\u00a0 Many youth are different- somewhat changed, more grown up perhaps (ie- less care free).\u00a0 This saddens me.\u00a0 (Thus I am less care free too \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I am hopeful for the future.\u00a0 I know God is with us in all that is yet to come.\u00a0 So I don&#8217;t worry too much.\u00a0 But I do find myself having a hard time not second guessing the way the last year was dealt with all around us.\u00a0 Do pray for our church, community, town, and world.\u00a0 As always I am very thankful for all of you and the work you have done and continue to do behind the scenes here in the church.\u00a0 I have been so pleasantly surprised by the strength this church has shown through all of this.\u00a0 I know you have all inspired me.\u00a0 Hope you feel the same about each other.<\/p>\n<p>I also want to remind us all that we are brothers and sisters in Christ.\u00a0 There are still many topics that seem to be driving wedges between people.\u00a0 We can change this by example.\u00a0 We as the church understand the concept of grace much better than most.\u00a0 It is certainly time to live it out.\u00a0 Please overcome your own pride to find that space of grace where we accept others ideas and opinions.\u00a0 I am inclined to think that everyone believes they are doing their best with the information they have been given.\u00a0 We will not agree on everything with everyone.\u00a0 (We never have!)\u00a0 And right now we need to continue to pray for unity in the body of Christ.\u00a0 (The body is made of many different parts- not all the same).<\/p>\n<p>May God unite us and bless us!\u00a0 Pastor Kevin\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Pastor Kevin added that the past month has felt different\u2014more positive!<\/p>\n<p>Council members present had a discussion regarding Communion and moving forward\/away from the sealed individual cups:\u00a0 Pastor Kevin felt that it is probably not OK at this time to go back to the method of communion by intinction. He suggested using metal trays filled with individual plastic cups filled with wine\/grape juice (one designated person to hand out rather than having the congregation each take their own from the tray).\u00a0 July 4<sup>th<\/sup> is the target date to have this new method of communion up and running.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin will check on the availability of the trays.<\/p>\n<p>Jan also asked if we should start having people fill out name tags again (there are a lot of new members).\u00a0 Pastor Kevin and council agreed that this is a good idea (individuals can use sanitizer after touching pens\/markers).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buildings and Grounds: \u00a0<\/strong>[Submitted by Jan Olson] <strong>\u201c<\/strong>Spring Cleanup successful with a good number of volunteers.\u00a0 Projects completed:\u00a0 mulch spread in central landscaped area as well as some by shrubs at pond; door windows washed and cabinet fronts wiped down in kitchen and breakfast bar; basement cleaned out of many unneeded items. Youth did the \u2018hauling\u2019 for us.<\/p>\n<p>Plan to sell 3 items:\u00a0 an air compressor, a 60 in. round conference table, and 25 blue\/chrome chairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Question:\u00a0 windows have not been washed on outside in 2-3 years.\u00a0 Can this be done by an outside vendor?<\/strong>\u00a0 Inside to be done by Betts.<\/p>\n<p>Brad\u2019s projects in addition to routine maintenance work:<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;overseeing building and installation of altar rails<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;building one basement partition to see if that is what we want and actual cost (lumber costs continue to be very high!)<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;reinstallation of bathroom fans<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;continuing work to flush water heater w help of Kascade in order to resolve odor in kitchen<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;we\u2019ve <strong>been \u2018written up\u2019 on routine Fire Inspection because exit door from west side Sanctuary is jammed.<\/strong> Also is rusting and paint peeling.\u00a0 Brad working with Tom as he had Albright Construction replace our east exit door in basement stairwell as it had done the same thing.\u00a0 But <strong>this has to be done<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Beverly Raatjes is organizing the Weed Patrol team again.\u00a0 Ben Manning going to be trimming trees and shrubs at appropriate time.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Pierre and Dave Klemp working on ways to control algae growth in pond.<\/p>\n<p>Oshkosh H&amp;A here to fire up new Air Conditioner to be sure it works due to installation in winter.\u00a0 Brad and Rick present to learn to troubleshoot system if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Ben working with friend to get road sign cleaned up \u2013 cost $100.\u00a0 Temporary fix while replacement cost researched and decision on fund raiser.<\/p>\n<p>B&amp;G Team not meeting till Sept. unless need arises.\u00a0 Please read B&amp;G article in June Newsletter. \u00a0Thank you\u2019s going out to many!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Council discussed West Door issue.\u00a0 Jeff Jahnke made a motion to have Albright repair the door (in the same manner we worked with them to repair the East door in the past with similar pricing and scope of work.\u00a0 B&amp;G committee will review the scope of the work and verify similar pricing to the past work and verify work by Albright Construction will satisfy the fire code violation).\u00a0 Apryl Brantly seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed that the outside windows were last cleaned in 2014 and that it cost around $400 then.\u00a0 Jeff and John M. said that the windows don\u2019t look bad, so is there a desire to have it done now?\u00a0 Pastor Kevin added that Dave Klemp cleans the windows (that can be easily reached) often.\u00a0 Council feels that the windows are OK for now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We Care:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pastor Kevin said that the team will meet next in June 2021.\u00a0 He has received positive feedback on the cards that were sent out to those in long term care facilities.\u00a0 We still can\u2019t do the \u201cbig\u201d things, but the small things are very important.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pastor Kevin said that the youth are planning\/finalizing the mission trip.\u00a0 There may have been a few kids who have dropped out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Social Media:\u00a0 <\/strong>Sarah said that services are not being recorded anymore.\u00a0 There were only about 11 people viewing.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin also added that there are still some people attending church in the parking lot, but he may be looking to have this discontinued soon (broadcasting the service limits which piano can be used for music).<\/p>\n<p>Sarah noted that communication to get items posted on Social Media in a timely fashion needs to be improved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><u>MONEY Surplus YTD<\/strong> as of April 2021\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $24,749<\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Surplus for Month<\/strong> of April 2021\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $ 3,437<\/p>\n<p>Total Cash in Operating Checking Account as of April 2021 is <strong>$104,543.71<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total Cash in Special Events Checking Account as of April 2021 is <strong>$53,237.85<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(this includes the $29,500.00 in Holding)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total in Fortifi Investment Account as of March 2021 is<strong> $22,873.81<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Operating Budget Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our YTD income for Church Operations is higher than budgeted by $21,032.\u00a0 Our Regular Envelope\/Vanco\/Credit Card giving is higher than budgeted by $17,648 our Loose Offering is higher than budget by $15.<\/p>\n<p>We received Scrip proceeds as of April 2021 $2,000 of our Fiscal Year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We did budget for a ($9,489) Deficit YTD and our Actual Surplus YTD is $24,749<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Pastor Kevin asked if the credit card giving is through texting.\u00a0 Apryl said that it is all grouped together (texting\/recurring payments via credit card).\u00a0 Pastor Kevin asked Apryl if she is involved with the year-end review.\u00a0 She said no.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that Gail and Andy met and that it is going well.\u00a0 Apryl has been meeting with the rest of the office staff and they are going through the computer software.<\/p>\n<p>Motion to approve Treasurer\u2019s Report made by Kristen Bjornstad.\u00a0 Seconded by Jan Olson.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stewardship:\u00a0 <\/strong>Things are going well.\u00a0 There were some questions about categories to be put on the printed offering envelopes (for directing giving).\u00a0 Pastor Kevin verified that the envelopes currently have \u201cGeneral,\u201d \u201cGood Samaritan,\u201d and \u201cother.\u201d\u00a0 No change is needed.\u00a0 These are the categories needed for the envelopes.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>OLD BUSINESS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Employee Handbook:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff put out an inquiry to other ELCA councils and received 3 responses.\u00a0 He has forwarded the information received to David Wein.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Constitution Update:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jan received an email with suggestions for changes\/upgrades to the constitution that Lord of the Lakes submitted.\u00a0 She needs to go through these suggestions.\u00a0 The constitution is still with the [synod] review committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>NEW BUSINESS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Event:<\/strong>\u00a0 The date for a September event was discussed.\u00a0 Kristen suggested\/reminded that combining the 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary event with rally day was discussed.\u00a0 September 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021 (after the second service) is the date being looked at\/scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Kevin suggested that council provide the main meat for the event and other members of the congregation can bring side dishes.<\/p>\n<p>Jan said that she can help with the event, but doesn\u2019t want to chair.\u00a0 Jeff is going to talk to Becky Jahnke.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah thinks she may be able to do something with youth archery for the event.\u00a0 Kristen reminded that having David Wein\u2019s band play was discussed previously.\u00a0 We could also ask about having the high school polka band play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>New Council Members:\u00a0 <\/strong>Sarah Miller and Jeff Jahnke will need replacements as their terms are up at the end of the year.\u00a0 Sarah said that she will still do social media once she is no longer on council. preparing to begin the \u201cStewardship For All Seasons\u201d campaign.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol><li><strong>Social Media: <\/strong>Sarah is working on updating the LOL webpage.\u00a0 She sent a list of needs for the site to Randy Korus.\u00a0 She will continue working to get the pertinent information updated.\u00a0 Facebook page is doing well.\u00a0 Sarah is working with Tammie to get the Sunday School plans and is working on getting Fall\/Winter activities updated.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"28\"><li><strong>Life and Fellowship: <\/strong>The team met on 6\/23 and discussed items\/events that may be of interest to the congregation.\u00a0 Sarah would like to send out the activity interest survey (that was previously sent to council members for input).\u00a0 She will email the congregation and have some paper copies for those who don\u2019t use email.\u00a0 Jeff would like to see a survey link on the Facebook page.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin will announce the survey at the 8:00 a.m. on 7\/21 and the 10:00 service on 7\/28.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>We Care: <\/strong>The team met last month and is getting ideas for the Fall.\u00a0 Pastor said that 1\/3 of the congregation is dealing with mental illness directly (in some way).<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Old Business<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Easter Breakfast Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>The council needs to have the Easter Breakfast coordinator established \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 by January 15, 2020, so that we know who will be handling this by the January council meeting.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>12 Month Goals Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>Some of the items that council brainstormed last meeting will be <strong>ongoing \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>items.\u00a0 Others will be designated as <strong>Tasks <\/strong>that will be given a timeline to be completed and checked off.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Stewardship program:\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Men\u2019s group:\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Volunteer recruitment (getting newer\/younger families involved):\u00a0 nursery will still be unstaffed (there was not enough interest to get it staffed).\u00a0 There will<\/p><p>be new signage so that parents are aware that children are not to be unsupervised in the<\/p><p>nursery (she has heard that some older kids have been in there which resulted in<\/p><p>broken toys and untidiness).\u00a0 Council agreed to signage that says, \u201cWelcome to the<\/p><p>nursery.\u00a0 Please NO unsupervised children.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Financial Peace University (David Ramsey Debt Reduction program):\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said this program is set up and ready to run.\u00a0 This program will be open to the community and is not just for the congregation.\u00a0 Just need to recruit people to attend.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>New Business<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>Pastor Kevin and Sarah Miller noted that there will be an outdoor service and pot luck on Rally Day (9\/8).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Sarah and
