I&#8217;m not sure what else we could have done.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal note, my family is doing well.\u00a0 I&#8217;m hoping to take some time off soon.\u00a0 (I think I need it.)\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Pastor Kevin said that overall things have been good.\u00a0 There was good attendance for Easter.\u00a0 People are also talking more and more people are coming back. There have also been a lot of new members joining.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buildings and Grounds: <\/strong>*See attached April 2021 Team Reports Document.\u00a0 \u00a0Jeff advised council that if we increase our insurance deductible from $500 to $2500, and there are no claims for 3 years, the savings are quite good (approximately $700 per year).\u00a0 Jeff Jahnke made a motion to increase the deductible to $2500.\u00a0 Wayne Ludkey seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne suggested to Jan that if we look at getting a new sign for the church, we should form a committee and get new bids.\u00a0 Jeff said that the Thrift &amp; Gift sign he thinks is made of plywood, but looks like brick (and looks nice).\u00a0 It was suggested to ask congregation members to sign up to be on the committee.\u00a0 Pastor noted that someone will need to head up this committee, possibly someone from B &amp; G.\u00a0 He suggested Joe Groholski.\u00a0 Jan said that Joe is currently not on B &amp; G.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that he would contact Joe.\u00a0 Wayne suggested carrying over the current nautical theme (used inside the church) and put those elements into a new sign.<\/p>\n<p>The clean-up of the current sign was discussed.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that it is very light and can be picked up and brought closer to the building, or inside the building, for clean-up (or repainting).\u00a0 Apryl added that this would be a good youth project.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We Care:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pastor said that the team is meeting in person on 4\/22\/2021.\u00a0 Right now mental health, overall, is not very good.\u00a0 People are really struggling.\u00a0 Wayne asked if there is anything the congregation can do?\u00a0 Pastor Kevin suggested that as things are opening up we may be able to start visiting again.\u00a0 Jeff thought that the congregation could send letters to members who reside in nursing homes.\u00a0 Wayne suggested having the Sunday school kids make some cards (this was done on 5\/2\/2021).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth: \u00a0<\/strong>John P. informed council that the youth will be doing a Water Walk as a fundraiser for Simple Hope on 5\/23.\u00a0 Also, Amy has now submitted all the necessary materials for seminary.\u00a0 Youth attendance is dropping (due to sports picking back up).\u00a0 The mission trip is still on for July,<\/p>\n<p>Jan talked about getting the basement cleaned up and a possible rummage sale was discussed.\u00a0 There are approximately 60 chairs in the basement that we don\u2019t use.\u00a0 Wayne and John M. thought that Facebook Marketplace may be a better way to sell the chairs.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>MONEY MATTERS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lord of the Lakes Council Meeting Financial Notes<\/strong> \u2013 April 20, 2021<\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Surplus YTD<\/strong> as of March 2021\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $21,312<\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Surplus for Month<\/strong> of March 2021\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $11,993<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Total Cash in Operating Checking Account as of March 2021 is <strong>$103,865.59<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total Cash in Special Events Checking Account as of March 2021 is <strong>$56,062.41<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(this includes the $29,500.00 in Holding)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total in Fortifi Investment Account as of March 2021 is<strong> $22,873.81<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Operating Budget Explanation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our YTD income for Church Operations is higher than budgeted by $20,658.\u00a0 Our Regular Envelope\/Vanco\/Credit Card giving is higher than budgeted by $17,629 our Loose Offering is lower than budget by ($184).<\/p>\n<p>We received Scrip proceeds as of March 2021 $2,000 of our Fiscal Year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>We did budget for a ($7,117) Deficit YTD and our Actual Surplus YTD is $21,312<\/p>\n<p>David Wein made a motion to approve the Treasurer\u2019s report.\u00a0 Jan Olson seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne noted that there seemed to be a lot of money in the checking account.\u00a0 Jeff suggested looking at putting a portion of the money into a money market so there is some return on it.\u00a0 Apryl said that she is meeting with the office staff on 5\/5 and will discuss options then.<\/p>\n<p>Wayne asked Apryl if there could be different \u201cbuckets\u201d for donations, so that we can keep track of funds more easily.\u00a0 Apryl confirmed that there would not be separate funds , but just a more detailed\/better tracking system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stewardship:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>From Wayne, <strong>\u201c<\/strong>The Lent giving effort of $40 for 40 days, brought us $3,850 for the Good Samaritan Fund. This was a wonderful gift to the fund that helps those who Pastor feels can use an additional helping hand.<\/p>\n<p>One member of the congregation told me he was working with his financial advisor to name Lord of the Lakes as a beneficiary in an IRA. The messaging in bulletins and newsletters is working. I think the legacy giving message in the upcoming May newsletter is moving. Sarah already posted it on Facebook. Now that we are coming back into church with more people, I see a legacy giving seminar in the offing.<\/p>\n<p>Gifting policy: Everyone should have had more than a month to review. I&#8217;d like to vote on the new policy at this meeting. I&#8217;ve attached it to this email.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wayne handed out the gifting policy for discussion.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin asked if each gift coming in would go to the stewardship committee first.\u00a0 Wayne said yes.<\/p>\n<p>Apryl asked if there would be a monetary amount that would determine if a gift would\/would not need to go to the committee.\u00a0 Jeff and Pastor Kevin noted that check coming in as gifts [from funerals] designated as endowment fund will go through the office (so the families can be notified and send \u201cThank You\u201d notes\u201d).\u00a0 These gifts would go right into the endowment fund.<\/p>\n<p>John Penza made a motion to vote via email on the gifting policy after the suggested corrections (below) are made.\u00a0 Apryl Brantley seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff requested a correction to the gifting policy document under \u201cGifts of Life Insurance\u201d (eliminating last sentence and adding the word \u201cirrevocably\u201d so that the new last sentence reads, \u201cIf a donor wishes to make a gift of a life insurance policy, with tax benefits to the donor, Lord of the Lakes must be named as the owner and beneficiary of the policy, irrevocably.\u201d).\u00a0 Gifting policy was updated and sent to council for approval.\u00a0 Approved by majority vote of council (7 \u201cYes\u201d votes.\u00a0 0 \u201cNo\u201d votes).\u00a0 Gift Acceptance Policies and Procedure document is attached.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>OLD BUSINESS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Employee Handbook:\u00a0 <\/strong>David has checked with a few others and, at this time, nobody else is interested in participating on the handbook team.\u00a0 Jeff asked if he spoke with Dawn Barber and thinks that she would be a good person to help.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin also suggested checking with the synod office to see if they have a template.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electronic Communication: <\/strong>Wayne and Jeff met on this issue.\u00a0 Jeff is thinking about engaging students from Fox Valley Tech\u2019s IT program.\u00a0 They would still look at engaging Becky Atkinson (see March 2021 council meeting minutes).<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Constitution Update:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff is targeting May 2, 2021 (after each service) to get the congregation to vote and meet a quorum to ratify the updated constitution. **Update\u2014we received 77 votes on 5\/2\/21 in favor of the motion to approve the updates to the Lord of the Lakes Constitution (8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services combined).\u00a0 No votes were cast against the motion.\u00a0 Total attendance from both services was 126 (which includes children and guests\/non-members). list of needs for the site to Randy Korus.\u00a0 She will continue working to get the pertinent information updated.\u00a0 Facebook page is doing well.\u00a0 Sarah is working with Tammie to get the Sunday School plans and is working on getting Fall\/Winter activities updated.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"28\"><li><strong>Life and Fellowship: <\/strong>The team met on 6\/23 and discussed items\/events that may be of interest to the congregation.\u00a0 Sarah would like to send out the activity interest survey (that was previously sent to council members for input).\u00a0 She will email the congregation and have some paper copies for those who don\u2019t use email.\u00a0 Jeff would like to see a survey link on the Facebook page.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin will announce the survey at the 8:00 a.m. on 7\/21 and the 10:00 service on 7\/28.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>We Care: <\/strong>The team met last month and is getting ideas for the Fall.\u00a0 Pastor said that 1\/3 of the congregation is dealing with mental illness directly (in some way).<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Old Business<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Easter Breakfast Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>The council needs to have the Easter Breakfast coordinator established \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 by January 15, 2020, so that we know who will be handling this by the January council meeting.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>12 Month Goals Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>Some of the items that council brainstormed last meeting will be <strong>ongoing \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>items.\u00a0 Others will be designated as <strong>Tasks <\/strong>that will be given a timeline to be completed and checked off.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Stewardship program:\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Men\u2019s group:\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Volunteer recruitment (getting newer\/younger families involved):\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Constitution revisit to have guide for the future:\u00a0 Task.\u00a0 Jeff and Jan will review the current nursery will still be unstaffed (there was not enough interest to get it staffed).\u00a0 There will<\/p><p>be new signage so that parents are aware that children are not to be unsupervised in the<\/p><p>nursery (she has heard that some older kids have been in there which resulted in<\/p><p>broken toys and untidiness).\u00a0 Council agreed to signage that says, \u201cWelcome to the<\/p><p>nursery.\u00a0 Please NO unsupervised children.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Financial Peace University (David Ramsey Debt Reduction program):\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said this program is set up and ready to run.\u00a0 This program will be open to the community and is not just for the congregation.\u00a0 Just need to recruit people to attend.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>New
