(Hurray!)\u00a0 I suspect October will be a really great month as well.<\/p>\n<p>On a personal note I am doing Ok.\u00a0 But there are currently quite a few dark situations affecting some of the members of our church.\u00a0 It is a difficult time we are living through.\u00a0 Please do pray for each other, for me, and our church.\u00a0 Especially that we are able to keep meeting regularly and assist and bring hope that so many in our community need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Kevin requests that we pray for people\u2019s patience and anger.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen noted that the Women\u2019s group is meeting with leaders at WAAC regarding the backpack program about how we can help.\u00a0 The women\u2019s group may help with the shopping and packing of the backpacks.\u00a0 Wayne asked if any monetary donations to WAAC should be made through Lord of the Lakes.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that it should because then it can be tracked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buildings and Grounds:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff said that B &amp; G is still waiting on the third quote for the furnace work.\u00a0 Kate Pfaendtner is working with Acuity and told Jeff that they are paying $93,000 for the roof repair\/replacement from wind damage.\u00a0 That will be done this Fall.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin added that a new email was received discussing a better quality product and whether or not the church would go with that and just pay the difference for the upgrade.\u00a0 The cost is still being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Kevin also mentioned that more information is being pursued in regards to the furnace.\u00a0 There is some question on whether or not there was a recall on the furnace.\u00a0 Jan will be looking back at previous B &amp; G minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Youth:\u00a0 <\/strong>John P. said that Youth group will begin meeting again a week from Wednesday (9\/23).\u00a0 The Sunday school classrooms were painted and some shelving\/furniture was replaced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We Care: <\/strong>The first meeting is scheduled for September 17<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Treasurer Report:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Surplus YTD<\/strong> as of August 2020\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $18,910<\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Surplus for Month<\/strong> of August 2020\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $\u00a0 3,591<\/p>\n<p>Total Cash in Operating Checking Account as of August 31, 2020 is <strong>$100,728.32<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total Cash in Special Events Checking Account as of August 31, 2020 is <strong>$40,944.93 (this includes the $29,500.00 in Holding)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Total in Fortifi Investment Account as of June, 2020 is<strong> $19,677.87\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Operating Budget Explanation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our YTD income for Church Operations is lower than budgeted by ($1,381).\u00a0 Our Regular Envelope\/Vanco\/Credit Card giving is higher than budgeted by $68, our Loose Offering is lower than budget by ($2,635).<\/p>\n<p>We received Scrip proceeds as of August 2020 $3,600 of our Fiscal Year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We did budget for a ($13,021) Deficit YTD and our Actual Surplus YTD is $18,910<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Gail added that we are doing well at holding expenses down.<\/p>\n<p>Gail will check with Doris because Wayne and John P. are not getting the emails with the financial reports.<\/p>\n<p>John Penza made a motion to approve the treasurer\u2019s report.\u00a0 Kristen Bjornstad &amp; Jan Olson seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stewardship: <\/strong>Wayne shared that the endowment fund team had their first meeting on Friday, September 11, 2020.\u00a0 They are thinking of calling this group the, \u201cLegacy Gift Committee.\u201d\u00a0 Anyone thinking of giving a gift would have their gift reviewed by the committee, and the committee would make its recommendations to council.\u00a0 The committee would also take care of all the tracking needed.<\/p>\n<p>Pastor asked if the Stewardship team could just oversee this.\u00a0 Wayne said the stewardship team does oversee the endowment fund.\u00a0 Jan asked if people usually come with a specific idea or gift in mind or do they ask what the church needs?\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that many times they do have something specific in mind and it would be nice to have a committee to review gifts.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff touched based to make sure the check was sent to the ELCA from the stewardship campaign (see August 2020 minutes).\u00a0 Gail confirmed that a check for $2500 was cut for the ELCA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>OLD BUSINESS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reopening:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff noted that we should work on getting more chairs in the sanctuary.\u00a0 We will still separate the groups of chairs, but we can definitely get more in there.\u00a0 He said that some churches are now opening as the normally would.\u00a0 He suggested getting as many chairs as possible in the sanctuary\u2026while maintaining social distancing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wayne said that the radio transmission to the parking lot was off on Sunday when the band played.\u00a0 Sarah said that she would attend on Sunday to review and communicate any changes needed to Ryan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Council Terms:\u00a0 <\/strong>At the last meeting we discussed extending the term year for council members to 12\/31 of the year their term is scheduled to end.\u00a0 Jan checked the by-laws and said that this means that the officers currently in place will stay in their positions until 12\/31\/2021.<\/p>\n<p>John Penza made a motion that all council member\/officer terms will be extended to December 31<sup>st<\/sup> of the corresponding year.\u00a0 Sarah Miller seconded.\u00a0 Approved<\/p>\n<p><strong>Constitution: <\/strong>Jan noted that the part of the constitution reviewed starts with Chapter 10\u2026<\/p>\n<p>-The annual meeting was changed to coincide with the fiscal year<\/p>\n<p>*added that a preliminary budged is needed by November (prior to the annual meeting)<\/p>\n<p>Wayne asked if overseeing of the endowment fund should fall under the duties of the treasurer (since there is no business management team).\u00a0 Gail added that she believes that the BMT should be resurrected and that she liked going over ideas with the BMT in the past.<\/p>\n<p>Jan asked if the note about the BMT (C.13.07.d) overseeing the endowment fund should be in the constitution (D.20.j) as she thinks it would be beneficial to establish a road map.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff Jahnke made a motion to accept the amended constitution and send to the synod for approval, see what the synod says and proceed from there.\u00a0 Wayne Ludkey seconded.\u00a0 Approved (unanimous).<\/p>\n<p>Wayne added that we will still need to work on teams, but we need to know what the congregation members\u2019 strengths are.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin noted that sometimes people end up stepping up and falling into the roles.\u00a0 He does not feel that we need anything too structured on paper.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff confirmed that once we get feedback\/approval from the synod we will bring the constitution to the congregation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Employee Handbook:\u00a0 <\/strong>Discussion has been tabled until October meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>NEW BUSINESS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cyber Security:\u00a0 <\/strong>Jeff would like to have all reports sent to a central archive, so that all future council members\/staff will have access to past materials.\u00a0 Sarah recommended setting up a Google Business account.\u00a0 Wayne added that it\u2019s pretty easy to do it.\u00a0 Jeff said that this way sermons and QuickBooks with financial information can be backed up too.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of security, Wayne wondered if there was any update on putting in any security cameras as this had been discussed in the past.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that B &amp; list of needs for the site to Randy Korus.\u00a0 She will continue working to get the pertinent information updated.\u00a0 Facebook page is doing well.\u00a0 Sarah is working with Tammie to get the Sunday School plans and is working on getting Fall\/Winter activities updated.<\/li><\/ol><p>\u00a0<\/p><ol start=\"28\"><li><strong>Life and Fellowship: <\/strong>The team met on 6\/23 and discussed items\/events that may be of interest to the congregation.\u00a0 Sarah would like to send out the activity interest survey (that was previously sent to council members for input).\u00a0 She will email the congregation and have some paper copies for those who don\u2019t use email.\u00a0 Jeff would like to see a survey link on the Facebook page.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin will announce the survey at the 8:00 a.m. on 7\/21 and the 10:00 service on 7\/28.<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>We Care: <\/strong>The team met last month and is getting ideas for the Fall.\u00a0 Pastor said that 1\/3 of the congregation is dealing with mental illness directly (in some way).<\/li><\/ol><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Old Business<\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Easter Breakfast Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>The council needs to have the Easter Breakfast coordinator established \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 by January 15, 2020, so that we know who will be handling this by the January council meeting.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>12 Month Goals Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>Some of the items that council brainstormed last meeting will be <strong>ongoing \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>items.\u00a0 Others will be designated as <strong>Tasks <\/strong>that will be given a timeline to be completed and checked off.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Stewardship program:\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Men\u2019s group:\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Volunteer recruitment (getting newer\/younger families involved):\u00a0 ongoing<\/p><p>Constitution revisit to have guide for the future:\u00a0 Task.\u00a0 Jeff and Jan will review the current Task.\u00a0 Sarah will have Ryan Miller assess the sound system and will report Ongoing<\/p><p>Nursery Updates:\u00a0 Task.\u00a0 Sarah updated the Nursery to accommodate 0-3 year old children.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 nursery will still be unstaffed (there was not enough interest to get it staffed).\u00a0 There will<\/p><p>be new signage so that parents are aware that children are not to be unsupervised in the<\/p><p>nursery (she has heard that some older kids have been in there which resulted in<\/p><p>broken toys and untidiness).\u00a0 Council agreed to signage that says, \u201cWelcome to the<\/p><p>nursery.\u00a0 Please NO unsupervised children.\u201d<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Financial Peace University (David Ramsey Debt Reduction program):\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said this program is set up and ready to run.\u00a0 This program will be open to the community and is not just for the congregation.\u00a0 Just need to recruit people to attend.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>New Business<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>Pastor Kevin and Sarah Miller noted that there will be an outdoor service and pot luck on Rally Day (9\/8).<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Sarah and Pastor Kevin will meet regarding when\/how Time and Talents will be rolled out this year.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Jeff discussed council taking the month of August off.\u00a0 Everyone agreed.\u00a0 Next
