{"id":2625,"date":"2019-06-26T18:54:59","date_gmt":"2019-06-26T18:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lordofthelakes.net\/?p=2625"},"modified":"2019-06-26T18:54:59","modified_gmt":"2019-06-26T18:54:59","slug":"june-2019-council-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lordofthelakes.net\/index.php\/2019\/06\/26\/june-2019-council-minutes\/","title":{"rendered":"June 2019 Council Minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Lord of the Lakes Council Meeting Notes\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>June 18, 2019<\/p>\n<p>Members Present:\u00a0 Pastor Kevin Heffernan, Jan Olson, Sarah Miller, Jeff Jahnke, Geoff Hendren, John Penza, and Kristen Bjornstad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Devotion:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff Jahnke, \u201cIf\u2026.When\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Devotion next month:\u00a0 John Penza<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Approval of May Minutes:\u00a0 <\/strong>Motion to approve made by John Penza.\u00a0 Sarah Miller seconded.\u00a0 Approved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jeff asked the group if any items should be added to today\u2019s agenda.\u00a0 No additions were made.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Treasurers Report<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Gail was out sick, so Jeff covered what was sent to council members.\u00a0 Jeff suggested that the operating<\/p>\n<p>statement that is sent out ahead of time should be posted in church.\u00a0 Council can just discuss any \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 questions on this report at the monthly meeting.\u00a0 Pastor asked if there were any comments on the \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 financial notes.\u00a0 Kristen noted that the was a loss budgeted for, but there was actually a YTD profit.<\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Profit YTD <\/strong>as of May 2019 FYE\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $5261<\/p>\n<p>The Operating Budget Total <strong>Net Profit for Month<\/strong> of May 2019\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $2474<\/p>\n<p>There was actually a budgeted loss YTD ($3316), but the Actual Profit YTD is $5261.<\/p>\n<p>No questions on Financial Report.\u00a0 Kristen made a motion to approve.\u00a0 Sarah seconded.\u00a0 Approved<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Pastor\u2019s Report:\u00a0 <\/strong>At Jeff\u2019s request, the Pastor\u2019s report that Pastor Kevin sends out ahead of the council meeting will be attached to the council meeting minutes instead of being summarized in the meeting notes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Stewardship:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pastor Kevin and Wayne Ludkey went to the synod office to get information on the new stewardship program.\u00a0 The new program is set up with a \u201cBig Picture\u201d outlook on giving.\u00a0 Some churches have doubled their giving.\u00a0 LOL has a team of 5 members working on the new campaign which will begin in the Fall and continue to the end of the year.\u00a0 The new material is different than in the past and is more holistic as it has people looking at giving in relationship to their own lifestyle.\u00a0 The next team meeting is at the end of summer.\u00a0 If anyone else would like to volunteer for this team, they should contact Wayne.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jeff commented that we should have someone from the congregation coordinating with Thrift for volunteers.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that Cindy Hendren has been doing this.\u00a0 We should follow up with her to make sure she wants to continue doing this, or if she would like someone to help her with it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Buildings &amp; Grounds: <\/strong>Jan noted that the parking lot was done.\u00a0 There was an increased cost due to the harsh winter.\u00a0 Total came in over $14,000.\u00a0 Original quote was approximately $9000.00.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin noted that Jon F. is doing a fantastic job with maintenance as he is very proactive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Youth: <\/strong>Amy Penza accepted the job offer for the Youth Director position.\u00a0 Starting date is July 8<sup>th<\/sup> and Youth Team meetings will begin again in July.\u00a0 An outside support team is being put together to assist her.\u00a0 Jan asked if Amy will be involved with Sunday School as well.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin stated that she may oversee\/direct, but will not be \u201crunning\u201d Sunday School.\u00a0 The full scope of her position and involvement with Sunday School is yet to be determined.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah asked if we will still be looking into hiring a Sunday School\/Volunteer Coordinator (previously\u00a0discussed a paid position for about 10 hours per week).\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said we will need to look into that a little further.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Social Media: <\/strong>Sarah is testing a new \u201cGroup Me\u201d app with the Women\u2019s Bible Study group.\u00a0 She said this app is a good way to communicate with groups (example:\u00a0 inclement weather\/emergency closing).\u00a0 Sarah is looking to improve communication within the church.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Time and Talents survey will be coming out this Fall (paper and web-based) and it will as \u201chow\u201d members prefer to be contacted.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin said that we should also ask how \u201coften\u201d members would like to be contacted.\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff wants to make sure we ask members what things they do\/don\u2019t like as well.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Life and Fellowship: <\/strong>Sarah stated that the Women\u2019s Ministry has been successful so far.\u00a0 The next Bible study that is planned for summer has around 20 women signed up to attend.\u00a0 The Life &amp; Fellowship team is meeting on 6\/23\/19 (between services) to plan the events calendar.<\/li>\n<li><strong>We Care: <\/strong>Pastor Kevin is meeting with Drew Jaeger and the group next Thursday.\u00a0 They are looking at bringing in a guest speaker in August.\u00a0 Geoff noted that there may possibly be some grant money coming to this group from Thrift.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Old Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Easter Breakfast Discussion:\u00a0 <\/strong>The question was raised, \u201cIs the Easter breakfast a fundraiser?\u00a0 If so, who is it for?\u00a0 Who is running it?\u201d\u00a0 After discussing options and issues, the group decided that this is a day of celebration and should not be focused on money.\u00a0 The following was proposed\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep doing the Easter Breakfast<\/li>\n<li>Free-will offering only (not a \u201cfundraiser\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Need to find a group each year to staff it (giving the Youth group first crack at hosting). We need to confirm, <strong>3 months in advance<\/strong>, which group is staffing it.<\/li>\n<li>Whichever group staffs the Easter breakfast will receive any donations given.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Motion made to approve this proposal made by Jan Olson.\u00a0 Kristen Bjornstad seconded.\u00a0 Motion\u00a0 passed.<\/p>\n<p>John suggested that the Youth could always do a Breakfast or Luncheon as a \u201cfundraiser,\u201d separate\u00a0from Easter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jeff asked the group what we would like to accomplish in the next 12 months?<\/p>\n<p>Jan\u2014stewardship is at the top of the list.<\/p>\n<p>Geoff\u2014would like to see the Men\u2019s group get going again.<\/p>\n<p>John\u2014would like to see younger\/newer families involved (groups, committees, usher, reading,<\/p>\n<p>communion etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Jeff\u2014(to Jan) Revisit the constitution.\u00a0 Also would like to establish a way to keep records available,<\/p>\n<p>so that they can be easily found, in one place, as technology changes (Drop Box?).<\/p>\n<p>Sarah\u2014new sound system for the music department.\u00a0 Would also like to see more events\/activities (for<\/p>\n<p>families\/couples etc., that are not centered around fundraising.<\/p>\n<p>Kristen\u2014would like to see a thriving Women\u2019s ministry.\u00a0 We are off to a good start, but we need to<\/p>\n<p>continue to build on it.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff noted that he would like to try to keep council meetings to an hour.\u00a0 He would like to see short team updates and spend the majority of the meeting time focused on other church business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Closing Prayer:\u00a0 <\/strong>Pastor Kevin<\/p>\n<p>Motion to adjourn made by Kristen Bjornstad.\u00a0 Seconded by Jeff Jahnke\/Jan Olson.<\/p>\n<p>Meeting adjourned at 7:48 p.m.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Next Meeting:\u00a0 July 16, 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lord of the Lakes Council Meeting Notes\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 June 18, 2019 Members Present:\u00a0 Pastor Kevin Heffernan, Jan Olson, Sarah Miller, Jeff Jahnke, Geoff Hendren, John Penza, and Kristen Bjornstad.
