{"id":2150,"date":"2017-11-22T16:37:11","date_gmt":"2017-11-22T16:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lordofthelakes.net\/?p=2150"},"modified":"2017-11-22T16:37:11","modified_gmt":"2017-11-22T16:37:11","slug":"november-2017-council-minutes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lordofthelakes.net\/index.php\/2017\/11\/22\/november-2017-council-minutes\/","title":{"rendered":"November 2017 Council minutes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lord of the Lakes Council Meeting,\u00a0November 21, 2017<\/p>\n<p>Attendance: Geoff\u00a0 Hendren, Pastor Kevin, Gail Gardner, Joe Groholski, Bill Grau, Wayne Ludkey, Ken Mueller, Kerry Arendt, Kari Nigl<\/p>\n<p>Opening Devotion by Bill<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pastor\u2019s Report: Ecumenical Thanksgiving service was tonight at St. Mary\u2019s. October\/November has been very busy with various meetings, a wedding, and a funeral, Simple Hope.\u00a0 Christmas season will be busy.<\/p>\n<p>Buildings and Grounds:\u00a0 Phase I of the LED light project is complete with the exception of the lights that need a lift to reach.\u00a0 Rebate will be submitted by the end of the year, and will be used towards Phase II.\u00a0 Council approves this, and also $400 for the second phase.\u00a0 One rental of the lift can then be used for both phases, and in turn save money.\u00a0 Second rebate will be put back into the budget, once that returns.<\/p>\n<p>We had a difficult discussion about the public threat and safety of our congregation.\u00a0 We will consult local police Chief Olson, ask for a safety check, and take a proactive approach.<\/p>\n<p>Worship: Thanksgiving and Christmas services planned.<\/p>\n<p>Youth: The Youth Service will be 1\/21\/18.\u00a0 With all that is going on in the news these days, it has been asked if our youth chaperones are screened and educated on what exactly is sexual harassment?\u00a0 They do go through a background check.\u00a0 Ken will discuss this further with Courtney.<\/p>\n<p>Finance\/Budget Summary:\u00a0 See Gail\u2019s report for more details. Andy, Vern, and Doris did the year end budget review and they will do an annual report of Script Program soon.\u00a0 Fall Fundraiser = $2900 which will go directly to the mortgage principle.\u00a0 There is a $400 surplus in a flower designated fund which will be shifted towards the LED project as mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p>Stewardship: We currently have 51 people enrolled in electronic giving.\u00a0 1 person is using the new online system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Business<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sabbatical \u2013 Our Synod has verified that a Pastor should take up to 12 weeks of sabbatical every 5-7 years.\u00a0 Pastor Kevin has been with us for 8 years, and this will be his first leave.\u00a0 The Synod also recommends the church financially support the Sabbatical to help cover expenses. \u00a0Council approved Pastor to be off \u00a04 weeks during the month of January, and 4 consecutive weeks later in the year. \u00a0A motion was made by Wayne for Council to approve $500 per week of sabbatical.\u00a0 A second motion was made by Ken.\u00a0 All were in favor.\u00a0 While Pastor is gone in January, Pastor Keith Tomlinson will be stepping in as Pastor on Sundays, Jan Olsen will be doing home visits, and four other pastors will take emergency call, one week at a time.<\/p>\n<p>Estate Gift \u2013 Our church has been blessed with an estate gift.\u00a0 Council has decided to put roughly $15,000 towards fulfilling our \u201cReserve Account\u201d at the bank, totaling $25,000.\u00a0 This will free up the monthly payment of $1300.\u00a0 The remainder of the gift will stay in the stocks, and we ask the Business Management team to guide us with that.<\/p>\n<p>Nominating Committee for Council 2018 \u2013 This would have been Linda Zillges, who is unfortunately no longer with us, and Terry Korus, who has moved.\u00a0 We are looking for non-council members to help nominate for the new term.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry Arent has shared that she will complete her Council term at the end of this calendar year.\u00a0 She and her husband have moved back to Appleton and will be resuming participation at their old church, with their children and grandchildren.\u00a0 Kerry\u2019s insight will be missed!<\/p>\n<p>Stewardship Training \u2013 Wayne was asked and graciously accepted, to attend a training in April.<\/p>\n<p>Church Directory \u2013 It has been 3 years since our last directory, and we have seen a lot of new members in that time.\u00a0 We will ask that Jill reach out to the Photographer from last time, and ask that someone chair this event.<\/p>\n<p>Snow Cancellation Policy \u2013 Church is rarely cancelled due to snow.\u00a0 However, Pastor Kevin will make an announcement over the next few weeks and ask if anyone would like to be on the cancellation call list.\u00a0 Otherwise, you can find our cancellation on the news and Facebook.\u00a0 You can also hear Pastor Kevin\u2019s recording if you call the church.<\/p>\n<p>Closing prayer:\u00a0 Pastor Kevin,\u00a0 \u00a0 Next meeting 12\/19\/17.\u00a0 Devotion:\u00a0 Kari<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lord of the Lakes Council Meeting,\u00a0November 21, 2017 Attendance: Geoff\u00a0 Hendren, Pastor Kevin, Gail Gardner, Joe Groholski, Bill Grau, Wayne Ludkey, Ken Mueller, Kerry Arendt, Kari Nigl Opening Devotion by Bill Team Reports Pastor\u2019s Report: Ecumenical Thanksgiving service was tonight at St. Mary\u2019s.
