The Sacrament of Baptism is when God’s spirit becomes alive and starts to grow.\u00a0 Parents, community, and people of faith nurture that faith until Confirmation.\u00a0 Baptism is a sign of God’s love and will that we be reborn in the image of Christ our Savior.\u00a0 Baptism is a deed by God that enables us to live according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 Through Baptism, each of us belongs to Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n Baptism is a joyous celebration as well as a sacred one.\u00a0 It’s meant to be shared by family, sponsors, godparents and the whole church community.\u00a0 The sign of the cross, traced on the forehead, is a symbol of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 A baptismal candle is provided to symbolize Jesus Christ.\u00a0 The candle may be relit on the anniversary of the Baptism.<\/span><\/p>\n Infants and children are baptized so that they may receive the benefits of God’s grace, freedom from sin, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 Adults are baptized after a period of instruction and a profession of faith.\u00a0 People may be baptized at any age, but need to receive this sacrament only once in their lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n For furthur information
