finds Himself alone with His thoughts in today\u2019s reading.\u00a0 But it isn\u2019t just His thoughts that He encounters.\u00a0 Satan tempts Him.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0In Matthew\u2019s Gospel this occurs right after Jesus has been Baptized.\u00a0 This is interesting timing.\u00a0 And perhaps the most important part of Jesus Baptism is made known to us.<\/p>\n \u00a0Jesus\u2019 identity is revealed as God\u2019s beloved Son.\u00a0 This identity most certainly sustained Jesus through these temptations that we read about today.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0In our own lives, we too have our wilderness moments.\u00a0 Sometimes they are short and sometimes they are extended.\u00a0 Why they happen and when is a mystery.<\/p>\n \u00a0One thing is of note in the life of Jesus.\u00a0 When the wilderness occurred for Jesus, it prepared Him for what was ahead.\u00a0 Ultimately it prepared Him in private for what would become public later.\u00a0 Again, His identity was key in keeping Him faithful to God.\u00a0<\/p>\n Perhaps there is much to learn here for us.\u00a0 What if the dry seasons are the times when we grow the most?\u00a0 Admittedly they can be painful.\u00a0 But our identity as God\u2019s faithful children holds a power we would be wise to tap into.\u00a0<\/p>\n May our Lenten journey prepare us for the days ahead in our own lives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
